 What is Ivy Leaf Extract?

Ivy extract is extracted from the leaves of Europe ivy plants. Its main use is to promote respiratory health, but it can also be used for skin anti-aging. This extract is available in capsule and liquid form and can be found in many syrups, ointments and creams. Ivy originated in southern Europe and has been planted on a large scale in China.
Some components of ivy have expectorant effect. This means it helps to reduce the build-up of mucus in the respiratory system. Saponins and alkaloids called imidine increase mucus secretion in the lungs, which can be excreted through the mouth when coughing. Coughing sometimes causes spasms in the bronchial muscles, and this extract relieves spasms.
